A new Tractor Supply Co. store could soon be built in Castle Hayne.

Developers conducted a preliminary community information meeting Monday to prepare neighbors for the proposed store at 3400 Castle Hayne Road.

A conditional rezoning to neighborhood business (B-1) would be needed to construct the project, planned on property totaling 11.5 acres currently zoned residential (R-20).

Plans call for a 22,000-square-foot building, a 4,000-square-foot garden center and a 14,000-square-foot fenced outdoor display area. With 77 parking spaces proposed, the project would occupy about four acres. The remaining acreage would include a stormwater pond and stay undeveloped, according to the community notice, prepared by Paramounte Engineering, Inc.

Site plans have not yet been reviewed by the county planning board, a county spokesperson confirmed.

Tractor Supply operates stores in Hampstead, Shallotte and Rocky Point – about 10 miles down the road from the proposed site in Castle Hayne. Last year, the outdoor living and agricultural retailer opened a store in Leland, its fourth in the Cape Fear region.

A Tractor Supply spokesperson said the company doesn’t have any additional information about the proposed location at this time but should have details to share next year. “We look forward to developing plans and working with the community!” the spokesperson wrote in an email.
